Tierpark Wittenberg is a zoo in Wittenberg, Germany.

History

A commission remodelled the town fortifications in 1928; they had been abandoned since the 1870s and gradually dismantled. The scheme was aimed at creating a leisure promenade and included animal pens, among them one for ravens. The nearby swan pond was brought into use, and mandarin ducks and barnacle geese were bought for it.

Animals and collection

Several hundred animals of about 76 species are kept, with primates a particular focus: golden-headed lion tamarin, ring-tailed lemur, pygmy marmoset and cotton-top tamarin, though ruffed lemurs and tufted capuchins are no longer held. Reptiles are represented by pond turtles and corn snakes, and the rock hyrax enclosure is singled out as unusual.

Its exhibits include Affenhaus, Volieren and Aquarium.
