Johannismühle wildlife park and its collection

Johannismühle wildlife park is a wildlife park in Lübben, Germany.

Privately run, the park covers over 55 hectares and holds roughly 500 animals of about 50 species. Annual attendance runs at roughly 60,000 to 80,000.

History

The park takes its name from a watermill built in 1730. Late in the Second World War a Soviet army staff moved into the forester's house, since demolished, and the hunting district later became the private preserve of the Soviet commander-in-chief in Germany. Private negotiations with Russian and German authorities secured the land in August 1994 for conversion to a wildlife park, which was founded in 1997.

Animals and collection

Animals on show include Grauwölfe, Waschbären, Wisente, Polarwölfe and Braunbär.
