Zoologischer Garten Halle is a zoo in Halle (Saale), Germany.

Nine hectares in all place it among the smaller German zoos, though a terraced layout around the hill makes the grounds seem bigger than they are.

Animals and collection

Animals on show include Berberlöwen, Ameisenbär, Elefant, Erdferkel and Erdmännchen.

Exhibits

The rainforest section greets visitors with white-faced sakis and lowland pacas, and a Patagonian coast area has a flamingo lagoon with Chilean flamingos, European pond turtles and many species of duck. Meerkats, regularly bred, sit between the pelicans and the penguins. The Himalaya subsection holds yaks, red pandas with tufted deer and black-necked cranes, golden takin with blue sheep, corsac foxes, and aviaries for owls and vultures.

Conservation and approach

The zoo keeps the European studbook for the two-toed sloth and the grey-winged trumpeter. Humboldt penguins are bred within the European conservation breeding programme, and Vietnamese pheasants are also bred.
