Zoopark Vyškov and its collection

Zoopark Vyškov, opened in 1965, is a zoo in Vyškov, Czech Republic.

The zoo runs as a contributory organisation under the name ZOO PARK Vyškov and is a member of the Czech and Slovak zoo union. Its 7 hectares hold 520 animals in 142 species or breeds.

History

Zdeněk Sokolíček (1921–1994) started the original animal corner in April 1965, and it was formally opened on 8 August that year. The first plot measured 30 by 15 metres, was built by volunteer labour and held roughly 20 animal species. The early small zoo concentrated on primitive domestic breeds.

Exhibits

Since 2011 the grounds have held a replica Haná farmstead of around 1900, showing rural life, together with an environmental education centre carrying interactive ecology displays. A DinoPark was added in 2006 and an observatory in 2012.
