Hodonín Zoo and its collection

Hodonín Zoo, opened in 1977, is a zoo in Hodonín, Czech Republic.

Set in floodplain forest, it manages 4.5 hectares of water and parkland and has the town as its founding body. It belongs to the Czech and Slovak zoo union and to EAZA, and takes part in European breeding programmes.

History

It grew from 1973 on the initiative of the municipal national committee under its chairman, Emil Schwarz, with townspeople and local groups helping to build it. A zoo corner was partly open from 1976 before the official opening, and early stock was limited to some domestic animals, carnivores and small monkeys.
