Wingster Waldzoo and its collection

Wingster Waldzoo is a zoo in Wingst, Germany.

Both wild and domestic animals are kept, some of them in a petting section. The collection centres on animals from forest regions around the world.

History

It started in 1972 as the Baby-Zoo, set up by the animal dealer Ruhe, and worked on the model of buying young animals rejected by their parents, hand-rearing them and passing them on to other zoos. Cramped enclosures and new legislation bankrupted the company in the 1990s.

Animals on show include Zwerghühner, Pfauen and Kaninchen.

Things to do include Escape rally, Kids' tour, Adventure tour, Zookeeper for a day and Show feeding.

• The "Taiga" section consists of more rugged forest trails with natural gravel and soil, including a notable uphill slope near the owl aviary.
• The park offers accessible restrooms equipped with baby-changing facilities located near the entrance.
• A complimentary wheelchair is available for visitor use (recommended to reserve in advance), and wagon rentals are available for families (though discouraged on steeper Taiga paths).
• Doorways to indoor animal houses and walk-through gates are wide enough for mobility devices.
