Zoo am Meer Bremerhaven and its collection

Zoo am Meer Bremerhaven, opened in 2004, is a zoo in Bremerhaven, Germany.

The zoo stands on the Weser dike at Willy-Brandt-Platz, near the large lighthouse. It has been described as the smallest scientifically run zoo in Europe.

History

It began in 1912-13 as a North Sea aquarium of 30 tanks in a basement beside the Weser dike. Under its original name, Tiergrotten, it opened on 24 June 1928, laid out north of the Strandhalle with enclosures, aviaries, heated houses, pools and seawater aquaria.

Animals and collection

Animals on show include Eisbär, Faultier, Kaiserschnurrbarttamarin, Polarfuchs and Puma.

the internal on-site gastronomy within the zoo has been closed.
Paid parking is available directly in front of the zoo on Hermann-Heinrich-Meier-Straße (offering roughly 150 public parking spaces) or in the nearby "Havenwelten" parking garage, which is just a short 5-minute walk away.
Kann jedoch ein Ausweis mit einem „B“ (Begleitperson erforderlich) oder einem „H“ (hilflos) vorgelegt werden, erhält die Begleitperson freien Eintritt.
