Schwarzwaldzoo Waldkirch and its collection
Schwarzwaldzoo Waldkirch is a zoo in Waldkirch, Germany.
Around 55 animal species are kept. The sloping site yields views over the town and the Kastelburg opposite.
History
A pair of Carpathian eagle-owls donated to the town in December 1956 formed the nucleus of an animal enclosure, which opened on 30 May 1957 and was run by a leaseholder up to 1980. Rebuilding followed a plan by Dieter Poley, then director of the Heidelberg zoo. It reopened on 16 April 1982 and has been municipally run since.
Exhibits
Its exhibits include Waldrapp-Gehege, Luchsgehege, Nerzgehege, Känguru-Gehege and Waschbärenanlage.

Things to do include Play arena and Petting zoo.

- Parking is available near the entrance area off Am Buchenbühl, making it an accessible starting point for a day out or a hike up toward the nearby Kastelburg ruins.

- the park is quite hilly, meaning visitors should expect steep paths and inclines
