Palm Beach Zoo and its collection

Palm Beach Zoo, opened in 1957, is a zoo in West Palm Beach, United States.

Hundreds of animals, many of them endangered, are kept across 23 acres of tropical planting. Amenities include a play fountain, a carousel, a cafe, gift shops and a bronze by Geoffrey C Smith, and more than 35 keeper talks are given each week.

Animals and collection

Animals on show include Aldabra Tortoise, Panther, Otter, Koala and Capybara.

Exhibits

Kimelman Tiger Falls, in the Asia section, dates from 2000, while the Tropics of the Americas complex cost $18 million, opened in 2004 and covers Mayan culture as well. Florida Wetlands recreates cypress swamp, with alligator, black bear, flamingo, panther, gopher tortoise, otter and owls. The Islands holds Goeldi's monkey, golden lion tamarin, two-toed sloth, koala, lemurs, siamang, serval and macaw.

Conservation and approach

Conservation partners include the University of Georgia's Southeastern Disease Cooperative, Brookfield Zoo, the AZA Contraception Center, the FWC, Brevard Zoo, the US Fish and Wildlife Service and Madidi National Park.
