Naturzoo Rheine and its collection
Naturzoo Rheine is a zoo in Rheine, Germany.
The zoo covers 13 hectares and houses around 1,400 animals in more than a hundred species. It forms a recreation area together with the Saline Gottesgabe, Kloster Bentlage and the surrounding Bentlager Wald.
History
Founded in 1937 as a Heimattiergarten, it began with fallow deer, wild boar and other central European species. The concept changed in 1965 to focus on non-European species. Wolfgang Salzert was scientific director from 1973 to 2002.
Animals and collection
The zoo is known for its Affenwald. Its tiger pair drew attention in 2003 and 2004 by producing three cubs, two of them unplanned.

Its exhibits include Affenhaus, Affenwald, Feuchtbiotop-Voliere, Froschteich and Insektarien.
