Wildlands and its collection

Wildlands, opened in 2016, is a zoo in Emmen.

It replaced the Emmen Zoo when it opened in March 2016, at a construction cost of 200 million euros. The reorganisation brought larger grounds but a smaller collection, down from 300 species to about 100; a 2018 count put the number of animal types at 80 or more. Four zones make up the park: Jungola, Serenga, Nortica and Animazia.

Animals and collection

The reorganisation enlarged the grounds but cut the collection from 300 species to roughly 100, and at least 80 animal types were counted in 2018. Jungola, which carries a jungle theme, holds butterflies, tropical birds, Chinese alligators, pythons, lemurs, gibbons, otters and Asian elephants.

Exhibits

Its exhibits include Jungola, Serenga, Nortica and Yunka.

• The park is largely wheelchair accessible with paved paths, and a limited number of wheelchairs and lockers are available onsite (reservations recommended).
• However, certain adventurous elements like suspension bridges, the Jungle Trail, Alligator Trail, Bamboo Maze, and Raft Crossing may not be accessible for visitors with limited mobility.
