Zoo Hoyerswerda and its collection
Zoo Hoyerswerda is a zoo in Hoyerswerda, Germany.
About 1,000 animals in 120 forms are kept on six hectares, together with 120 plants in 56 species, the tree stock including ginkgo, dawn redwood, hackberry and katsura. The grounds lie in the centre of the old town beside the castle and draw about 150,000 visitors a year.
History
The zoo began in the early 1950s, when a nature lover settled exotic ducks and swans at the castle moat. Günter Peters, then director of the castle museum, built the first animal enclosures with helpers from the Nationales Aufbauwerk.

Animals on show include Bärenbrüder, Erdmännchen, Fischotter, Emu and Kubakrokodil.
