Wildpark Frankfurt and its collection

Wildpark Frankfurt is a wildlife park in Frankfurt (Oder), Germany.

Features of the grounds include a pond landscape, a petting enclosure and a small apiary. City support amounts to an annual grant of 9,000 euros plus a share of the director's wage costs.

History

The site became a firing range for an imperial German grenadier barracks in 1880, and Soviet forces in Germany used the range from 1945 until 1994. The grounds also carried pig sheds and a greenhouse. After 1994 they were left idle and overgrown, with unexploded ordnance suspected in the ground.

Animals and collection

Many of the species roam loose, and where enclosures are necessary they are kept large and close to natural conditions.
