Aquatis — Aquarium in Lausanne
Aquatis and its collection
Aquatis is an aquarium in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Opened in October 2017, it has 3,500 m2 accessible to visitors and holds around 10,000 fish, 100 reptiles and amphibians and 300 plant species. Its 46 aquariums, terrariums and vivariums present 20 ecosystems from five continents along a two-storey route with digital projections, the whole of the lower floor given over to Europe.
History
It was first conceived by the biologists Morgane Labous Simunic and Frédéric Pitaval with the Swiss museologist Michel Etter, under the working name Aquaécopôle, drawing partly on the Biodôme de Montréal, which had opened in 1992. The team won a city-run competition with the concept.
