Zoo La Garenne and its collection
Zoo La Garenne is a zoo in Le Vaud, Switzerland.
History
The site began in 1965 in private hands, half rescue centre and half small park for native species. A supporters' association was helping from 1975, the international project to reintroduce the bearded vulture to the Alps began in 1978, and a foundation with regional public involvement took over in 1998. In 2016 the park moved to entirely new grounds with larger and more natural enclosures.
Animals and collection
Bearded vultures breed here, alongside black, griffon and Egyptian vultures, other raptors and owls, as well as wildcats, foxes and wolves. A rescue centre takes in injured adult birds and abandoned chicks.
Exhibits
A heated nature pavilion and a room beneath the restaurant show reptiles, amphibians, fish, rodents and insects.

- The grounds also feature a great playground, a picnic area, a cafe or restaurant, and a gift shop, making it easy to spend a pleasant couple of hours or more.
- Convenient options include a free parking lot as well as free street parking.
