Zoo der Minis and its collection
Zoo der Minis is a zoo in Aue-Bad Schlema, Germany.
The zoo specialises in keeping, breeding and showing unusually small breeds of animal, on the reasoning that small breeds need less space and feed while still drawing visitors. It is run by the biologist Bärbel Schroller, born in Aue in 1967.
History
It emerged in 1991 from an animal garden that a schoolteacher had started in 1960. The concept of miniature breeds was devised by the newly appointed director at a time when the funding of municipal facilities after reunification had become a problem. The town administration backed the plan and created the association that has run the site since.
