Tierpark Wolgast and its collection
Tierpark Wolgast is a zoo in Wolgast, Germany.
Roughly ten hectares of woodland lie on the northern edge of the town. About 400 animals of 52 species are on view. Proximity to the Polish border brings a growing share of Polish visitors.
History
The park was built largely by townspeople volunteering their labour in the Tannenkamp woods, town-owned woodland that had been a favourite outing spot since the 1920s. Plans in the late 1950s envisaged turning the area into a people's park. Building work started in October 1960, before the authorities had granted permission.
Animals and collection
Animals on show include Kattas, Weißgesichtmaki, Waschbären, Stachelschweine and Silberfüchse.
Exhibits
Its exhibits include Affengehege, Streichelgehege, Naturlehrpfad and Peene-Aquarium.
Things to do
Things to do include Zoo school and Feeding demonstrations.
