Müritzeum and its collection

Müritzeum, opened in 2007, is a mixed in Waren (Müritz), Germany.

Displays cover about 2,300 square metres and deal with nature, the environment, and regional and collection history. They are divided into a bird world, forest and nature, an aquarium landscape and a museum garden. The state natural history collections belong to a non-profit company set up at Waren on 1 January 2007.

History

Hermann von Maltzan founded a natural history museum for Mecklenburg at Waren in 1866, the first public natural-science museum in the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. A local teacher, Carl Struck, served unpaid as its curator and head. Both men belonged to the Mecklenburg natural history friends' association.

Its exhibits include Aquarienlandschaft, Naturkundeausstellung and Museumsgarten.
