Tierpark und Fossilium Bochum and its collection
Tierpark und Fossilium Bochum, opened in 1933, is a zoo in Bochum, Germany.
The zoo covers 1.9 hectares inside the Stadtpark and holds about 3,900 animals in more than 330 species. A mining museum and a planetarium stand close by.
History
It grew out of a supporters' association, and the first pens near the Bismarck tower held deer, sheep and birds of prey. Houses for apes, birds and exotic species followed, and a bear ravine and an aquarium building were added in 1939. Fish already accounted for 100 of the 300 species shown at that point.
Exhibits
Its exhibits include Dschungel hautnah, Asienwelten, Nordseewelten, Aquarien- Terrarienhaus and Keavoliere.
Things to do
Things to do include Zoological movement playground, Zoo app, Show feeding kitchen and Zoomobile (mobile outreach zoo).
Conservation and approach
The zoo holds memberships in EAZA, the VdZ and the DTG, and also belongs to the North Rhine-Westphalian partner-zoo group, the zoo educators' association and the keepers' professional body. Further memberships cover the small-mammal working group, the herpetological society DGHT and Sphenisco.

- Der Zoologische Bewegungsspielplatz ist ebenfalls teilweise barrierefrei gestaltet und ermöglicht gemeinsames Spielen und Entdecken.
