Tierpark Suhl and its collection

Tierpark Suhl is a zoo in Suhl, Germany.

History

It opened on 7 October 1969, keeping only local species at first. Enclosures have been enlarged or repurposed for welfare reasons since the 1990s. Bear keeping was given up and replaced in 2009 by a walk-in lorikeet aviary, and meerkats got an enclosure in 2010.

Animals and collection

Animals on show include Wildkatzen, Luchse, Kaninchen, Eichhörnchen and Poitou Riesenesel.

Exhibits

The collection concentrates on breeding threatened domestic breeds such as the Thuringian forest goat and Rhön sheep, and capercaillie are bred regularly. European wildlife on show includes lynx, elk and Alpine ibex.

Things to do include VIP meerkat experience, Feeding tour and Keeper for a day.

The park offers on-site refreshment options through a local kiosk providing a variety of snacks, small bites, and beverages to recharge while exploring the enclosures.

Visitors with mobility constraints or strollers should expect some natural unevenness, though the main areas remain a scenic place to walk.
