Thüringer Zoopark Erfurt and its collection

Thüringer Zoopark Erfurt, opened in 1959, is a zoo in Erfurt, Germany.

History

A council resolution of 1956 was followed by nearly three years of planning before the park opened in 1959 under its founding director, Harald Roth. The Roter Berg site had first been intended as additional public recreation ground, since population growth had left the Cyriaksburg and the Steigerwald overburdened. It is not the oldest zoo in Thuringia; that distinction belongs to the island zoo at Altenburg, which dates from 1954.

Animals and collection

Animals on show include Geparde, Zebramangusten, Kattas, Bisons and Löwen.

Exhibits

Its exhibits include Affendschungel, Afrikanischer Sumpf, Afrika-Savanne, Asiatische Huftiere and Berberberg.
