BIAZA

Newquay Zoo and its collection

Newquay Zoo, opened in 1968, is a zoo in Newquay, United Kingdom.

The zoo stands within Trenance Leisure Park and was opened by the local district council on Whit Monday, 26 May 1969. As of January 2026 it held roughly 993 animals of about 36 species on 13 acres. It is the largest zoo in its county.

Animals and collection

The collection is weighted towards smaller mammals, birds and reptiles suited to the compact site. Many EAZA ex situ programmes are supported, and in 2024-25 the zoo produced the first British-born Carpathian lynx selected for the Linking Lynx rewilding scheme.

Exhibits

The 13-acre grounds sit within Trenance Leisure Park, and the collection leans towards smaller mammals, birds and reptiles suited to so compact a site. Its planting took a Gold in Britain in Bloom during 2025, the first such win.
