Lehigh Valley Zoo and its collection
Lehigh Valley Zoo, opened in 1974, is a zoo in Schnecksville, United States.
The zoo sits within an 1,100-acre nature preserve and stays open all year round.
History
Harry Clay Trexler began buying farms in 1906 to make a preserve for bison, elk and white-tailed deer, amassing 36 farms totalling 1,108 acres. He left the land to the county on his death, and the site formally became the Trexler-Lehigh County Game Preserve in 1935.
Animals and collection
Animals on show include African Penguin, giraffes, sloths, common ostrich and plains zebra.
Things to do
Things to do include Animal Encounters and Winter Light Spectacular.
Conservation and approach
In 2009 it was taking part in three Species Survival Plans, covering the African penguin, the mongoose lemur and the scimitar-horned oryx.
