Zoo Frankfurt — Zoo in Frankfurt
Zoo Frankfurt and its collection
Zoo Frankfurt is a zoo in Frankfurt, Germany.
Exhibits
Ukumari-Land opened in 2013 on the site of the bear enclosures of the Grzimek era and shows South American mammals, while the Katzendschungel replaced the old predator gallery with an enclosure for carnivores, mostly from South Asia. The Grzimek-Haus, built in 1978, is given over to diurnal and nocturnal small mammals, and a pair of northern white-cheeked gibbons lives in a glazed winter garden by the Großer Weiher. The two-storey Exotarium is entered through a hall of the 1950s, the Saal der Klimalandschaften, and a breeding group of West Caucasian tur is kept at its exit.
Conservation and approach
The guiding principle is "Tiere erleben – Natur bewahren", and the collection shows rare, threatened or critically endangered species such as the red-crowned crane, the Asiatic lion and the bearded vulture. Species protection in the range countries is carried out through the Zoologische Gesellschaft Frankfurt.
What the venue says
- Abendführung
- The zoo features several on-site dining and snack locations. The _Zoo Terrace_ snack bar serves savory favorites like grilled sausages, currywurst, fries, chicken nuggets, vegetarian spring rolls, and drinks, utilizing an eco-friendly reusable dish system with a €2 deposit. Additionally, the _Bizzi waffle stall_ (near the seal cliffs, open on weekends) offers organic Belgian waffles, coffee, cakes, and organic ice cream and lemonades, alongside rotating seasonal options like the _Wok'n Taste Asia_ stand.
- Free street parking directly around the zoo is extremely limited, so visitors are encouraged to use public transit (such as the U6 or U7 lines to the "Zoo" stop) or nearby paid multi-storey parking garages. Convenient options nearby include the _Zoopassage_ car park (Grüne Straße 11), _City-Parkhaus Ost_ (entrances at Waldschmidtstraße 43 or Wittelsbacher-Allee 26), _Mousonturm_ car park, and the _Red Cross Clinic_ multi-storey car park.
- Blinden- und Begleithunde haben Zutritt nach Vorlage eines Nachweises.
