DierenPark Amersfoort and its collection

DierenPark Amersfoort, opened in 1948, is a zoo in Amersfoort.

History

It was founded on 22 May 1948 and began tiny, with one monkey, a bear, a camel and a few farm animals. A founder's daughter, Vis-Tertoolen, and her husband took over the running of it, around the time the first chimpanzees came.

Animals and collection

The first carnivore came some while after the opening, and the elephants Indra and Rani arrived in 1956.

Exhibits

Its exhibits include Dinobos, De Prairie, Klim Alles-route, Het Woud and Chimpanseevallei.
