Artisklas Haarlem

Artisklas Haarlem and its collection

Artisklas Haarlem is a zoo in Haarlem.

The smallest zoo in the Netherlands, it is run by volunteers and keeps non-native species for teaching purposes.

History

It grew from an idea of 1964 by J. Molenaar, a member of Artis staff, who wanted to teach local children about animals. He fitted out a garage under his house with dead and living animals and taught there once or twice a week.
