Royal Burgers' Zoo — Zoo & Aquarium in Arnhem
Royal Burgers' Zoo and its collection
Burgers' Ocean, opened in 1913, is a zoo in Arnhem.
Founded in 1913 by Johan Burgers, it houses many of its animals in large recreated habitats under cover. It draws roughly a million visitors a year, from Germany as well as the Netherlands.
Animals and collection
Animals on show include red titis, Giraffe, zebras, rhinos and gorillas.
Exhibits
Its exhibits include Bush, Desert, Safari, Ocean and Rimba.
Conservation and approach
It runs facilities for the captive breeding of species endangered in the wild, and breeds enough fish and coral to supply other public aquariums. An artificial moon is used to trigger coral spawning, and about 60 varieties are also cloned.
