Van Blanckendaell Park — Zoo in Tuitjenhorn
Van Blanckendaell Park and its collection
Van Blanckendaell Park, opened in 2007, is a zoo in Tuitjenhorn.
The park lies between Alkmaar and Schagen and keeps roughly 120 species from around the world. Also on the grounds are a windmill, a restaurant with two playgrounds, a shop at the ticket building, and a museum with a standing display on Dutch history.
History
It began as a private holding of a few kinds of pheasant, other small birds and domestic breeds. Growing public curiosity led the foundation's owner to open the grounds to visitors, and the park first opened on 6 May 2007, at what is now its eastern edge.
