Wisentgehege Springe and its collection

Wisentgehege Springe is a zoo in Springe, Germany.

The site covers 90 hectares between Eldagsen and Springe within the Saupark. It shows regional species in the habitat of the northern uplands, oak and beech woods with alder swamps and ponds.

Exhibits

The park is now geared towards environmental education, with a falconry yard and a wolf enclosure.

Things to do include Animal presentations, Wolf experiences, Animal care experiences and Public feeding.

Conservation and approach

It acts as the north German regional office of the European Bison Conservation Center, and from 2014 ran a three-year genetic survey of all roughly 600 wisent in Germany. It also joins European breeding programmes for Przewalski's horse, black stork, wolverine, European mink, wisent and Mesopotamian fallow deer.
