Santa Ana Zoo and its collection

Santa Ana Zoo, opened in 1952, is a zoo in Santa Ana, United States.

Annual attendance tops 270,000. A breeding pair of Brazilian ocelots occupies two connected habitats.

History

Joseph Edward Prentice bought 19.23 acres and gave 16 of them to the city in 1949, on condition that at least fifty monkeys always be kept. Building started that same year and the zoo opened on 8 March 1952. The Flight Aviary, later the Jack Lynch Aviary, was finished in 1962.

Exhibits

Tierra de las Pampas opened in April 2010 over two acres, the first of a planned run of exhibits, and River's Edge followed on 20 December 2025, reworking the Amazon's Edge exhibit that ran from 1993 to 2022. A small Rainforest exhibit stands in for the Amazon, with white-faced sakis and green iguanas. The 9,000 sq ft Colors of the Amazon Aviary opened on 1 August 1996, and Crean Family Farm opened in July 2004 around rare domestic breeds.
