Oakland Zoo, opened in 1922, is a zoo in Oakland, United States.

History

Snow founded the zoo on 6 June 1922 at 19th and Harrison streets downtown, where Snow Park now stands. It shifted first to Sequoia Park, then to Joaquin Miller Park, and by 1939 to Durant Park. Knowland, a chairman of the state parks commission, bought the land, and the park was renamed the Joseph Knowland State Arboretum and Park in 1950.

Animals and collection

Areas include Flamingo Plaza, with African spoonbill and lesser flamingo, along with a tropical rainforest and an African savanna. An Australian section holds agile wallaby, common wallaroo and emu, and there is also a children's zoo and a California Trail.

Its exhibits include California Trail and Children's Zoo.

Things to do

Things to do include Gondola, Skyride, Habitarium and Petting Yard.

• Parking at the Zoo costs $13 per single-family vehicle for General Admission guests when purchased in advance. Single-family vehicle parking passes purchased at entry are $16. Single-family vehicle parking is free for Oakland Zoo Members.
• Individuals with disabilities may bring their service dogs to the Zoo.
