Northumberland College Zoo and its collection
Northumberland College Zoo is a zoo in Ponteland, United Kingdom.
The zoo occupies part of a 400-acre college campus shared with Kirkley Hall, and is run by the college. More than 200 species are kept.
History
Visitors were first admitted in May 2011, when the collection went by the name Kirkley Hall Zoological Gardens; until then the animals had existed purely to train the college's animal care students. Emus, wallabies, marmosets, lemurs and meerkats made up the opening line-up. BIAZA membership followed in 2012, and among the early acquisitions was a pair of red-crowned cranes transferred from Chester Zoo.
Animals and collection
Animals on show include lemurs, alpacas, armadillos, monkeys and pied tamarins.
Exhibits
Its exhibits include Kirkley Hall gardens and Our woodlands.
