Lakes Aquarium and its collection

Lakes Aquarium, opened in 1997, is an aquarium in Ulverston, United Kingdom.

Displays are grouped by region, covering the Lake District along with Asia, Africa and the Americas, and hold such species as axolotls, piranhas, tetras, Arctic char and seahorses. Windermere Lake Cruises call here, and the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway terminates alongside. It ranks third among the paid-entry visitor attractions of Cumbria.

History

The Aquarium of the Lakes was the name it carried when it first opened in 1997, its displays following a stream down into the lake and out to Morecambe Bay. A rebranding in 2008 shifted the theme to lakes across the world.

Exhibits

Zones cover the Lake District, Asia, Africa and the Americas. Stock includes piranhas, tetras, axolotls, Arctic char and seahorses.
