Dallas Zoo

Dallas Zoo and its collection

Dallas Zoo, opened in 1888, is a zoo in Dallas, United States.

More than 2,000 animals of 406 species are kept. Annual attendance passed a million for the first time in 2015, and as of 2026 the zoo supports close to 1,800 jobs.

History

The zoo dates from 1888, its first purchase being a pair of deer and a pair of mountain lions bought for $60 from a Colorado City seller and penned in City Park. City council money in the 1890s paid for further animals. In 2009 the council approved the 11-acre Giants of the Savanna and the zoo's privatisation.
