Dallas World Aquarium

Dallas World Aquarium and its collection

Dallas World Aquarium, opened in 1992, is an aquarium in Dallas, United States.

Under a joint scheme linking local businesses with the Dallas public school district, many of the staff are full-time pupils at the business school within Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Magnet High School.

History

It opened in October 1992 inside a gutted warehouse of 1924, and in 1997 an Orinoco river exhibit opened in a second converted warehouse. The alley dividing the two structures marks the split between fresh water and salt water.

Exhibits

The upper floor, Orinoco, recreates rainforest canopy with aviaries and primate enclosures, and the Cloud Forest Trek opened in November 2021. The Mundo Maya gallery shows species from Mexico and Central America. Tanks on the ground floor hold fish, anemones, coral and jellyfish.

Conservation and approach

Threatened species are kept in a breeding programme shared with zoos elsewhere.
