Cameron Park Zoo, opened in 1955, is a zoo in Waco, Texas, United States.

More than 1,731 animals of 300 species are kept. They include one female African savanna elephant, Tembo, born in the wild in 1977 and on site since 15 January 1979.

History

It was founded in 1955 by wildlife enthusiasts as the Central Texas Zoological Park. A master plan was drawn in 1981, and a countywide bond passed in 1989 funded the redevelopment of 52 acres of Cameron Park. The present zoo dates from July 1993, its grounds holding waterfalls, a lake and ponds among native planting.
