Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo and its collection
Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo, opened in 1922, is a zoo in Bridgeport, United States.
Around 500 animals from more than 100 species are kept, and about 280,000 visitors come each year. There is also a carousel, one of few in the state.
Animals and collection
The Rainforest Building keeps two-toed sloth, Goeldi's monkey, golden lion tamarin, white-faced saki, black howler, Brazilian ocelot, vampire bat and yacare caiman.
Exhibits
The zoo is split into nine main exhibits, among them an indoor Rainforest Building of tropical South American species. State money of $2.5 million is due for a Spirit of the Cloud Forest build that will house two Andean bears. In August 2011 it hosted a rescue group's temporary reptile display, including an albino alligator.
Conservation and approach
In-situ and ex-situ programmes are run, with breeding of Amur tigers and leopards, red and Mexican wolves, Andean condors and eastern hellbenders.

- **Peacock Café:** Open daily from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM (the grill typically closes 30 minutes before the zoo closes), offering family-friendly lunch options, snacks, and drinks.
- **Parking is completely free** in the main zoo lot located right on-site at 1875 Noble Avenue, Bridgeport.
- The zoo features mostly flat, paved pathways making it largely accessible for strollers, wheelchairs, and mobility devices. Accessible restrooms and parking spaces are also available.
