Bristol Zoo Project and its collection

Bristol Zoo Project, opened in 2013, is a zoo in Bristol, United Kingdom.

The site holds 25 species, 19 of them mammals and six birds. Its layout, first planned around biomes, ties particular ecosystems to conservation programmes. Nurseries on site still grow a third of the animals' food.

History

The Hollywood Estate was given to Bristol Zoological Society by the White family in the mid-1960s, and from then until 2013 the land served as off-show breeding and quarantine space. The society also ran Bristol Zoo Gardens until that site shut in 2022. The park was renamed from Wild Place Project in the summer of 2023, as the older zoo's animals transferred from Clifton.

Animals and collection

Mammals include gelada, wolverine, European brown bears, cheetah, red panda, Eurasian lynx and wolves. Birds include turtle dove, pink pigeon, bleeding-heart dove, ostrich, village weaver and tarictic hornbill.

Exhibits

Its exhibits include African Forest, Bear Wood and Tower Meadow.

Things to do

Things to do include giant crocodile mouth, mangabey balance beams, Wild Lights and Shaun the Sheep Wildlife Mission Trail.
