St. Augustine Alligator Farm, opened in 1893, is a zoo in St. Augustine, United States.

It opened on 20 May 1893 and counts among the state's longest continuously operating attractions.

History

It began in 1893 as a small stop at the end of a railway line on neighbouring Anastasia Island, where alligators were first brought in to draw souvenir buyers and then became the main attraction in their own right. The operation moved to its present site in the early 1920s. It was among the earliest places to show every species of alligator, crocodile, caiman and gharial.

Animals and collection

Twenty-four crocodilian species are kept, along with other reptiles, mammals and birds, and shows and teaching demonstrations are run. One resident is an American alligator called Chance the Snapper.
