Roger Williams Park Zoo and its collection
Roger Williams Park Zoo, opened in 1872, is a zoo in Providence, United States.
Over 100 animals from around the world are kept. It is described as the third oldest zoo in the country. Together with the nearby Carousel Village it anchors visits to the surrounding park.
History
It opened in 1872 with a modest set of small animals, among them raccoons, guinea pigs, mice and hawks, and its first building, the Menagerie, dates from 1890. During the 1900s it expanded across the whole park, adding monkeys, hoofstock, bears and big cats. In 1986 it became the first AZA-accredited zoo in New England.
Animals and collection
Rather more than 100 animals from various parts of the world are kept. The Farmyard, added in 2014, is stocked chiefly with domesticated breeds — Shetland sheep, miniature donkeys, mini Nubian goats, Huacaya alpacas and Ossabaw Island hogs — which visitors may feed using food the zoo supplies.

Its exhibits include Savanna, World of Adaptations, Farmyard, Carousel Village and A Bug’s World.

Things to do include Stunt Dog Show, Keeper Chat, Food Truck Friday, Brew at the Zoo and Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular.

The Zoo is closed on last Saturday in June (6/27), Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.
