Capron Park Zoo and its collection

Capron Park Zoo, opened in 1937, is a zoo in Attleboro, United States.

Around 100 animals of 44 species are kept. The species span the Americas, Asia, Africa and Australia, and include white lion, Amur leopard, sloth bear and kangaroo.

History

Local schoolchildren began raising money for a zoo in 1925, and it opened in 1937 on 8 acres of the 33 given by the Capron family. A children's education department began in 1991, a year after the rebuilt zoo opened.

Exhibits

There is a nocturnal house and an indoor rainforest holding a two-toed sloth, fruit bats and a porcupine.

Conservation and approach

The zoo is accredited by both the AZA and AZAD, and takes part in the Species Survival Plan.
