Parken Zoo and its collection

Parken Zoo, opened in 1954, is a zoo in Eskilstuna, Sweden.

An EAZA member, it is owned by Kolmårdens Tropicarium, with Rickard Sjödén as managing director and Filip Sotton Heyn as chair of the board.

History

The people's park on the site opened on 3 July 1898, among the earliest in Sweden; the national people's park federation was formed here and the folk-park theatre had its premiere here. The animal collection was added in the early 1950s, and entry fees were introduced in 1954 at 50 öre for adults and 25 öre for children. By 1956 around 200 animals were held, elephants among them.

Animals on show include grå jättekängurur, Amurleoparden and flodvaranen.
