Hutchinson Zoo, opened in 1986, is a zoo in Hutchinson, United States.

History

Planning began in 1983 and the doors opened on 23 May 1986. A visitor centre added in 2003 was styled as a log cabin. Flooding closed the zoo for four months in 2007 and struck again in 2019.

Exhibits

Bison, native to Kansas but scarce in the wild there, have been shown since 1985, and black-footed ferrets went on display in 1998. Tamarins have been kept, with two births in 1999. One exhibit gathers domestic animals from several countries for visitors to touch, and an aquarium section shows fish and other water life.

• There are no full-service restaurants or major concession stands inside the zoo. However, the Friends of the Zoo Gift Shop sells a variety of light snacks, beverages, and seasonal frozen treats.

• The zoo is completely accessible for wheelchairs, strollers, and wagons.
• Manual wheelchairs are available to borrow free of charge at the Visitor Center/Gift Shop on a first-come, first-served basis. Wagons and strollers can also be rented for a small fee ($2).
• The venue is a KultureCity Certified Sensory Inclusive Venue, offering sensory bags and social stories for guests who may need them.
• Trained and licensed service dogs (and miniature horses) are welcome; pets and emotional support animals are not permitted on zoo grounds.
