Cougar Mountain Zoo

Cougar Mountain Zoo and its collection

Cougar Mountain Zoo, opened in 1972, is a zoo in Issaquah, United States.

The site sits close to the edge of Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park. Animals kept include wolves, reindeer, cranes, wallabies, macaws and cougars. Running and fundraising passed in 1990 to the Zoological Society of Washington.

Conservation and approach

The collection is built around threatened animals, among them Madagascan lemurs, Bengal tigers and birds from several regions. A paid membership scheme called The Living Classroom covers preschoolers through grade 12, and outreach is also run for churches and older people's groups.

What the venue says

  • remarkably close-up viewing areas
  • feeding certain animals (such as reindeer or alpacas)
  • special interactive encounters (like the Lemur Encounter)
  • Food options on-site are limited
  • A dedicated parking lot is available on-site for visitors.
  • Because the zoo is located on a hillside slope, paths include inclines and outdoor terrain typical of a mountain setting, but main areas are navigable.
