Copenhagen Zoo and its collection

Copenhagen Zoo, opened in 1859, is a zoo in Frederiksberg, Region Hovedstaden, Denmark.

Some 195 people are employed full time, and the collection holds over 4,000 animals across more than 250 species. Two giant pandas on loan from China arrived in 2019, a species held by few European zoos.

History

Niels Kjærbølling set the zoo up in 1859, on a site handed over by the royal gardens authority in the shape of Princess Vilhelmine's garden. The restaurant buildings date from 1899.

Animals and collection

Animals on show include giraf, leoparderne, løverne, pandaunge and chimpanse.

• The closest parking is available directly opposite the main entrance at the Q-Park lot (Roskildevej 25–27), with additional nearby options at Roskildevej 37–41 and surrounding street parking.
