BIAZA

Amazon World Zoo Park and its collection

Amazon World Zoo Park, opened in 1990, is a zoo in Newport, United Kingdom.

The collection is themed on the fauna of the Amazon. It began life as a private bird collection before opening to visitors year-round, and in 2024 it became a charity under the name Amazon Rainforest Conservation Centre.

Animals and collection

The collection follows an Amazonian theme, and among the South American species kept are tapirs, capybara, armadillos, ocelots, sloths and giant anteaters. Two-toed sloths, which are hard to reproduce under human care, have been bred here.

Things to do

Things to do include Jurassic themed adventure playground and Meet the Animals.

Conservation and approach

The park takes part in international breeding schemes, among them one for the Bali starling, a bird whose wild population once fell to 11, and it has a notable record of breeding two-toed sloths, which are hard to reproduce under human care. It also buys South American habitat through the World Land Trust.
