Birdworld and its collection

Birdworld, opened in 1968, is a zoo in Farnham, United Kingdom.

The grounds cover 11 hectares, divided into sections that combine flight halls, water features and aviaries, roughly 60 km south-west of central London. Facilities include a playground, a picnic area, eateries and shops. The collection works with EAZA and holds BIAZA accreditation.

History

The land was previously a smallholding, bought and run by Roy Harvey with his family, before the bird collection opened in June 1968.

Animals and collection

Birds make up the collection, housed across 11 hectares in a mix of flight halls, aviaries and water features. The names of the main areas indicate the groups kept: Parrots in Flight, Penguin Beach, Penguin Island, Flamingo Cove, Crescent Aviaries and the Terry Pratchett Owl Parliament.

Exhibits

Its exhibits include Penguin Beach, Penguin Island and The Owl Academy.
