Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo and its collection

Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo, opened in 1989, is a zoo in Gulf Shores, United States.

The site covers about 25 acres some two miles north of the Intracoastal Waterway, where over 300 animals are kept. Gate takings, memberships and donations supply its income. An Animal Planet series, The Little Zoo That Could, was made about it.

History

It began as a private venture of Robin Willis and Joey Ward, opening in June 1989 under the name Zooland Animal Park. The Ward family set up a foundation to support it. A further 13 acres, still unbuilt, came as a gift in 1994 from the Wards and the Erie Meyer Foundation.
