Yerevan Zoo, home to more than 160 species, anchors a family day in the Armenian capital. Visit on a Friday or Saturday and you can catch scheduled feedings -- elephant, hippo, lion and tiger -- then round out the day at Zoolandia, a small exotarium in the city centre with more than 30 exotic species of its own.

What not to miss

Featured location Yerevan Zoo Երեւան, Armenia The zoo occupies 35 hectares at the foot of hills in the south-east of the city and currently holds roughly 3,000 individuals of 300 species.

Yerevan Zoo, at Myasnikyan 20 in the city's southeast, has occupied its 30-35 hectare site there since the 1940s. It's organised into five sections -- carnivores, hoofed animals, birds, primates and an aquaterrarium -- and is currently home to more than 160 species, among them tigers, lions, Eurasian lynx, jungle cats, Asian elephants, common hippos, Bactrian camels, the Armenian mouflon, Przewalski's horse, European deer, peacocks, two vulture species, a spectacled caiman and a mandrill. It's a founding member of the Eurasian Zoo Association and a candidate for EAZA membership.

The collection keeps growing: in May 2026 the zoo announced new young among its Armenian mouflon, bearded vulture and white-headed vulture -- all three species listed in Armenia's Red Book.

Best time to visit

The zoo opens daily from 10am to 8pm, though the aquaterrarium section opens later, at 3pm, on Mondays for sanitation work -- skip Monday if that's the part your kids most want to see. The zoo holds scheduled feedings Friday and Saturday: the Asian elephant at 11am, the hippo at 10:30am Friday and 10am Saturday, the African lion at noon, and the Siberian tiger at 12:30pm.

Tickets and saving money

Admission for ages 3-69 is 2,000 AMD Tuesday to Sunday and 1,000 AMD on Mondays. Children under 3 and adults 70 and over go free, along with people with disabilities, families who lost a member in military service, residents of orphanages or care homes, residents of border villages, and families registered as socially vulnerable. Groups of 11 or more get a 5% discount on the total, and school, kindergarten or development-centre groups pay just 300 AMD per ticket with a letter from the institution.

With kids and accessibility

Strollers and wheelchairs are the only wheeled devices allowed past the gate -- bicycles, skateboards and e-scooters are banned. Guide dogs accompanying blind visitors are the only pets permitted inside. If the kids want to feed anything, the zoo only allows feeding the hoofed animals and primates, and only with the special food it sells on site, not snacks brought from outside.

Its Garni district visitor centre has welcomed visitors since September 2008.
