SeaWorld Abu Dhabi or the National Aquarium: Which Should You Visit?
Choose SeaWorld Abu Dhabi if you have a whole day and want rides, shows and polar animals; choose The National Aquarium if you have a few hours, a smaller budget or a free evening. As of September 2026, a SeaWorld single-day ticket costs AED 375 and is sold as a full day, while the aquarium's general admission is AED 110 and an average visit lasts around two hours. Both are in Abu Dhabi, so on a longer stay in the United Arab Emirates you can easily fit in one each day.
Which one to choose
Both claim a record. SeaWorld calls itself the world's largest indoor marine-life theme park; the National Aquarium calls itself the largest aquarium in the Middle East. So "largest" won't settle it. What surrounds the tanks will.
SeaWorld is a theme park first: 8 realms running from the poles to the tropics, more than 150 species of marine animals, over 15 interactive experiences and rides, and 17 dining options. The National Aquarium keeps to the animals: 10 zones and more than 200 sharks and rays of 25 species.
Pick SeaWorld for walruses, penguins and dolphins, the Manta coaster, and a day that needs no other plans. Pick the aquarium for sharks, manatees and otters, for getting into the water yourself, or for an evening out: it stays open until 10pm every day. SeaWorld has no orcas, so don't choose it expecting a killer whale show.
SeaWorld Abu Dhabi: a full day under one roof
SeaWorld opened on Yas Island on 23 May 2023, and the whole park is indoors, across five levels. In the Arctic you meet walruses, puffins and sea otters, and Antarctica keeps king, Adélie, gentoo, Magellanic, rockhopper, macaroni and chinstrap penguins. Tropical Ocean has bottlenose dolphins, American flamingos, macaws and toucans, and its highlights are the dolphin presentation, the rainforest and the Manta coaster.
Don't rush the two realms built around water. In Abu Dhabi Ocean, the Gulf animals include a rescued dugong, and four pools let you touch or feed stingrays and starfish. Endless Ocean holds sharks, rays and schooling fish.
Featured location SeaWorld Abu Dhabi Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates It opened on 23 May 2023 on Yas Island and is billed as the only park of its kind in the region. It was built as five indoor levels over 183,000 square metres. It holds certification from American Humane's international welfare programme. The National Aquarium: sharks, manatees and a late finish
The aquarium is one of 11 anchors in Al Qana, a 2.4 km waterfront dining and entertainment destination on Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street in Abu Dhabi's Rabdan area. It has more than 200 sharks and rays of 25 species.
Two African manatees arrived in April 2024; the aquarium calls them the first ambassadors for their species in the region. Asian short-clawed otters live in Otters Creek, with a presentation every day at 2pm, and the capybara feed-and-greet runs daily at 12 noon, at AED 30 for one person as of September 2026.
If you would rather be in the water than behind the glass, the snorkelling experience costs AED 199 as of September 2026. Guests aged 7 and over spend 30 minutes snorkelling above the Bu Tinah tank with its sharks and rays, and general admission to all the aquarium's zones is included.
Featured location The National Aquarium Abu Dhabi أبوظبي, United Arab Emirates The National Aquarium Abu Dhabi, opened in 2021, is an aquarium in أبوظبي, United Arab Emirates. Animals on show include Puffins, Asian monitor lizard, snakes and chameleons.Tickets and saving money
Prices below were checked in September 2026.
- SeaWorld Abu Dhabi: the Single Day Ticket is AED 375, and buying online saves up to 10%. It includes the complimentary shuttle bus and free parking. Children aged 2 and under enter free; children aged 3 to 11 need a ticket and an accompanying adult.
- The National Aquarium: general admission to the 10 zones is AED 110. A combo ticket at AED 150 adds The Butterfly Gardens Abu Dhabi, the Pristine Seas exhibit, a Wildlife Rescue tour and a glass bridge walk. People of Determination and their companion get 50% off each ticket.
If you plan more than one Yas Island park, the 2 Park Ticket covers any two of Ferrari World, Yas Waterworld, Warner Bros. World and SeaWorld. Families staying on the island should look at the Kids Go Free hotel offer: for stays from 10 April to 31 October 2026, one child aged 11 or under stays, eats and plays free for each booked adult.
At the aquarium, the snorkelling ticket already includes general admission, so it costs AED 89 more than a plain entry, not AED 199 on top.
Getting there
- SeaWorld Abu Dhabi: free Route D shuttle buses run from Abu Dhabi city to Yas Island and stop at SeaWorld. From Dubai, Ras Al Khaimah, Sharjah and Ajman, Yas Express runs free buses for guests with a valid e-ticket; be at the stop 5 minutes before the bus. Parking is free with your ticket.
- The National Aquarium: Al Qana is about 15 minutes' drive from Zayed International Airport and about 75 minutes from Dubai. The free Experience Abu Dhabi Shuttle Bus stops in front of the aquarium every hour from 10:25am to 6:20pm, with no booking needed, and Al Qana has over 1,400 free surface parking spaces.
Best time to visit
In Abu Dhabi, May to September is generally extremely hot and humid, and in July and August maximum temperatures average above 40°C. That is when SeaWorld's roof pays off: the whole park is indoors. Inside, the polar realms are cold and the tropical ones warm, so the park advises dressing in layers or bringing a jacket. The cooler season runs from November to March.
UAE school breaks in the 2026-27 year fall on 12-18 October 2026, 14 December 2026 to 3 January 2027, and 5-11 April 2027. Those are the weeks resident families are off school, so book ahead if your trip falls in one.
The aquarium opens every day from 10am to 10pm. SeaWorld's operating hours can change without notice, so check its website for your date, and check ride closures too: the park lists OctoZoom as unavailable from 24 August to 12 September, and Turtle Twist from 21 to 25 September.
With kids and accessibility
Strollers are the detail that decides it for families with small children. The National Aquarium allows only wheelchairs and mobility scooters inside, so bring a baby carrier. SeaWorld rents strollers for AED 40 for the whole visit, and its MicroOcean realm is aimed at children, with two play areas and four rides. You can't bring food or drinks into SeaWorld, but it has 17 dining options. At the aquarium, children under 12 must be with a paying adult aged 16 or over.
Both lend wheelchairs free: SeaWorld at its Guest Services counters in Abu Dhabi Ocean, and the aquarium against a valid ID. SeaWorld is fully wheelchair accessible.
